La película se abre recordando la figura de Simónides de Ceos, creador de la mnemotecnia (que Álvarez prefiere llamar el arte de la memoria), y, a través de dos líneas narrativas -por un lado, el desmantelamiento de una casa y la deriva de algunos de sus objetos hasta que quedan anclados en el limbo de los Encantes de Barcelona; por otro, el tapiz de ficciones y espejismos de una feria inmobiliaria-, se pregunta -pero, sobre todo, logra que el espectador se formule las preguntas adecuadas- sobre el lugar de esa memoria en un presente continuo con inquietantes trazos de no-lugar del alma. Conviene advertirlo: en una de las escasas locuciones -más filosóficas y poéticas que narrativas o testimoniales- que puntúan el metraje, Mercedes Álvarez menciona la crisis, pero <i style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">Mercado de futuros</i> no es una película sobre la crisis, sino algo más profundo: la directora levanta acta de una debacle espiritual que se forjó mucho antes... hasta llevarnos al momento en que nuestra parálisis ante la palpable catástrofe puso en evidencia "que las palabras ya no significaban lo mismo y el espacio había cambiado".</div><div style="color: #333333; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 10px; font: normal normal normal 160%/140% Georgia, 'Times New Roman', Times, serif; margin-bottom: 13px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">En uno de los momentos de la película, un gurú financiero recuerda esa frase de Rothschild, según la cual las mejores oportunidades para el emprendedor vienen mientras caen las bombas, no mientras suenan los violines en los salones de baile. Incluso él se equivoca: ese tipo de triunfo es otro espejismo. El rodatge es va fer en deu setmanes, una el 2009 i nou el 2010. En tot el procés de la pel·lícula hi ha hagut tres professionals; la resta era un equip d'estudiants del Màster en Documental de la UPF, i ells han acompanyat tot el procés. Però l'important és el que la càmera filma. Ningú de nosaltres no hi havia estat mai, a una fira immobiliària, i aquesta primera experiència ens va fer prendre diferents línies d'investigació. El que més ens va cridar l'atenció és el tipus d'espai que és una fira, un espai dissenyat per vendre el futur. Després vam anar a la fira de lideratge per entendre una mica en què consisteix aquesta nova religió del mercat, de venda, per què i com es creen necesitats i desitjos. Tampoc no havíem anat mai a cap. Vam veure que apuntaven en una mateixa direcció: la creació de desitjos i necessitats fa funcionar el món. Al congrés de lideratge empresarial, el que em va cridar més l'atenció va ser el discurs sobre les nines, sobre com la Bratz havia desplaçat la Barbie en unes franges d'edat. Els Encants, que jo pràcticament no coneixia, ens trobem que estan plens d'objectes que han tingut un valor, una funció de guardar la memòria de les persones que els han utilitzat, i que ara estan desprovistos d'aquest valor. I allà vam conèixer aquest personatge, en Jesús, que sembla que no té cap interès per vendre res, sinó que té més interès per parlar amb la gent que passa. Té un munt d'objectes, nines, llibres, mobles, que s'han abandonat, i fa la sensació que ell no se'n vol desprendre, com si fos una mena de guardià de la memòria. I el curiós és això, el contrapunt en que ell sí que vol saber els desitjos de les persones que passen, però al contrari que les fires on es creen desitjos, necessitats per vendre'ls, ell no vol vendre somnis falsos. Després, vam demanar filmar en una casa que s'estigués desallotjant i dins d'aquesta casa l'atenció està en aquests objectes que tenen una relació més directa amb la memòria: llibres, nines… Fins aquí, el procés de rodatge. Després va ser un treball de muntatge, d'establir relacions entre les diverses seqüències i, com et deia, d'assajar, amb aquestes imatges. Proposar a l'espectador una reflexió i un camí. És una pel·lícula que deixa molt d'espai per establir associacions. No vol imposar una tesi, una visió, sinó mostar més un estat d'ànim, un desassossec respecte d'algunes coses que estan passant. Més enllà de la crisi, tots hem anat veient que el món que hem creat no és al camí correcte. Ella parla d'una idea molt interessant, que és com els grecs van inventar aquest "art de la memòria”, un seguit de regles mnemotècniques que permetien recordar un discurs, un poema o una experiència, recorrent un espai arquitectònic. A la vegada, diu que a l'Atenes clàssica, els carrers amagaven un discurs filosòfic. A les imatges, a les estàtues, es podia llegir aquell espai i tenia un sentit a l'hora d'habitar-lo. Santa Maria del Mar, per posar un altre exemple, està decorada amb tot un seguit d'elements que parlen dels somnis, els desitjos, de la manera de viure, de les persones. De què ens parla, avui, l'espai arquitectònic? Aquest espai arquitèctònic era el guardià d'una memòria. Ara hi ha dos elements: d'una banda, les ciutats es mimetitzen. De l'altra, els edificis històrics, els barris antics, s'han convertit en un aparador per als turistes. Y si la lógica de los mercados dicta las normas de transformación de los espacios urbanos es debido a que todos caimos en la trampa. Mercedes Álvarez, <strong>directora de la aclamada 'El cielo gira'</strong> (2004) parte de esta premisa para competir en la sección oficial del Festival de Cine Europeo de Sevilla con su nueva producción<strong> 'Mercado de futuros'</strong>.</div><div style="color: #555555; font-size: 14px; line-height: 20px !important; margin-bottom: 12px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">La cinta, única producción documental que compite por el Giraldillo de oro, levanta sobre cuatro pivotes<strong> -arquitectura, memoria, espacio y lenguaje-</strong> un espejo en el que reconocemos algunos aspectos de las ciudades modernas y resalta la transformación del espacio urbano a raiz del boom inmobiliario vivido en muchos países occidentales y en España en particular. "No he querido hacer una película oportunista y<strong> no es una película sobre la crisis"</strong>, ha asegurado su responsable a su paso por el festival sevillano. Ocurre en el caso de la feria inmobiliaria donde asistimos, casi en primera persona, a las explicaciones que los comerciales de empresas del sector ofrecen a público o inversores. Todo en 'Mercado de futuros' se muestra con una <strong>simpleza abrumadora, sin intervención alguna </strong>en situaciones que conforman un espejo del lugar en el que vivimos. Coupled with its extended focus on Jésus, a junk dealer who refuses to sell his wares, are several strands of observational documentary filmed around the stock market, at corporate motivational conferences and at property fairs, drawing attention to the invisible architects of the postmodern economy at the moment before it crashed, and drawing connections between what is discarded and devalued and the inflation of false values and dreams.</div><div style="font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">The property fairs are particularly fascinating, not least because their elaborate, life-size promotional photographic backdrops, CGI projections and light-up architectural models implicitly indict mainstream cinema, which similarly uses CGI, backdrops and models as part of the dream factory that sells futures to unwary customers. While Varda’s film meditates on the ravages of time, Álvarez’s voice-over uses these talismanic objects to excavate the forgotten art of mnemonics, describing Simonides of Ceos’s development of the spatial arrangement of information that allowed him to bear witness to disaster.
